Asphalt Shingles:

Asphalt shingles are the most common and least expensive roof covering material on the market today. However, advance in technology have made it possible to manufacture shingles that can outlast by far the shingles of the past. Now these shingles are available in many different styles with a 25-year or lifetime warranty. If you are looking for a unique roof at a moderate budget, ask your estimator about designer shingles.

Metal

Metal roofs are the second most common type of sloped roofing. The cost a metal roof is, in average, 2.5 to 4 times as expensive as one in asphalt shingles. In return, a metal roof rarely lasts under 50 years, is rarely warrantied less than 40 years, and often lasts over a century. There are many different metal roofing products; from tiles to shingles to panels with many different types of metals ranging from aluminium to steel, copper or mixed metals. The product you choose can drastically affect the cost of your project and the overall look of your home.

Some of our favourite metal product lines are:
Ideal Roofing, Millenium Tiles, Vic West

Tile / Slate

Although still common in Europe, these products are now quite rare in Canada. Many people have false impressions about the cost associated tile or slate. Although a project in clay tile is far more expensive than asphalt shingles, it is comparable to some of the most expensive metal products or to cedar, but less expensive than some synthetic imitations. These products are extremely environmentally friendly, and with occasional maintenance they can last virtually forever.

Cedar

Cedar is by far the most natural product you can have on your roof. Ehen installed properly, cedar roofs have been known to last well over 50 years. Cedar is an excellent option for people who are interested in preserving the heritage look of their home. A cedar roof can be left to gain natural colors but can also be tinted to match just about any style.

Synthetic

Overall, a synthetic product gives you the most choice and control of the color and style you want your roof to have. Nowadays you can expect to find a synthetic imitation of any product that has previously existed. Most of them have warranties that far exceed the product they imitate. For example, most synthetic versions of a cedar shake will be warrantied for over 40 years whereas a person buying actual cedar may not have a warranty on materials at all. It is important to consider that the increased length of warranties is often reflected in the cost of the product. A synthetic roofing tile will definitely make your home stand out from the others, but you should compare the price to a couple other options before making your decision.
